According to the Disney press release, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil “continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon-to-be queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
The 2019 Maleficent, directed by Joachim Rønning, has shaken things up, adding Michelle Pfeiffer as the evil Queen Ingrith.
In addition to Jolie, Fanning, and Pfeiffer, the cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Phantom Thread queen Lesley Manville.
Maleficent, as directed by Robert Stromberg, explored the titular sorceress’s origin story, explaining why she bothered to make a Sleeping Beauty in the first place.
