Selena Gomez made about 169 million followers skid their mad scrolling to a halt when she announced via Instagram stories that she planned to launch a beauty line, Rare Beauty, this Beauty campaign, receive early access to products, and get to connect with the other people in the Rare community. "I want to highlight the stories of our community and build something special together," Selena Gomez wrote in a statement to Allure. "I hope the Rare Beauty community is full of life.
If your story is one of the 50 or fewer chosen by the Rare Beauty team, you'll be featured in a campaign. "Every type of human — however you look, however you love — is welcome," says Gomez. "Ultimately, I hope it's a safe place where people can chat, have fun, and support each other.
Is it possible that this community could eventually influence future product launches? "Nothing is off the table," says Katie Welch, Rare Beauty's chief marketing officer. "The community call will bring upwards of 50 people together to join the mission of the brand, getting early access to product, exclusive merch, and, more importantly, making new friends and connecting to each other.
It's an invitation to share your story (in this case, what makes you "rare" because duh, the line is called Rare Beauty), along with your Sephora Color IQ (to help shade-match you to the Rare Beauty products for you), and your Instagram handle.
I feel like the word 'rare' helps to eliminate all of the pressures to be perfect — it's saying you're one-of-a-kind and you are meant to be who you are," Gomez says. "That's Rare Beauty.
