Smalley shared with her 173,000 followers that she first sharpened up her nails with a file and then filled in the unpolished area above the cuticles using Essie Top of the Rock, a beautiful, chunky gold glitter. "I just wanted to share with my followers some light-hearted content to solve a problem that will make them feel better about the current situation, and it'll also kill some time," Smalley said when I reached out to her.
The stylist actually took to her Instagram Stories months ago to share that she forgot to pre-book her manicure appointment and had to film a video for work — she's a brand storyteller for Joico — so she filled in the unpainted area of her nails with a glitter polish.
Manicurist Holly Falcone agrees. "I think filling in the growth is a great idea when you can't get a manicure," she tells Allure. "Glitter is the best because it's the densest and you can basically 'spackle' the outgrowth, especially for something thicker, like a gel manicure.
